Linux for Dummies 8th Edition is out!

posted Monday, 30 July 2007
I know, your life is just not complete without a new version of Linux for Dummies. :) Well, I can help with that! Linux For Dummies 8th Edition is now available. In this edition, I made the tough choice to not just cut down on the number of Linux distributions I covered, but to just plain stick with one, Fedora. On the plus side, this means that I was able to cover a lot more on how to do things, which I think makes the book much better. I also brought in a co-author, Richard K Blum, who did a great job on hitting the ground running and making Linux For Dummies 8th Edition the best edition yet!

Hey Dorothy, long time no speak. I guess I'd say I am disappointed with the decision to only write about one distro....I think including Debian or a debian based distro made sense...for folks to get a handle on how different package managers work. Other than that I am looking forward ti purchasing the book and seeing what's new... Take care... Glenn

In pondering how to make the book better, we were getting concerned by the number of Linux distributions being covered as it was making it very difficult to do anything in depth. Ultimately it sounded better to just go down to one for now. I'll keep your disappointment in mind though when I prepare for the 9th edition. Thanks for the feedback!
